ZKSync swiftly reclaimed more than $5 million in stolen tokens after negotiating a 10% bounty with the hacker, who returned the remaining 90% of the assets. The breach, traced to a compromised admin key on April 15, was resolved within days as the exploiter cooperated during the 72-hour ’safe harbor’ period. By April 23, the funds were back in ZKSync’s hands, now under the custody of its Security Council. The platform’s governance will determine how to redistribute the recovered tokens, marking an official close to the case. The resolution underscores the growing sophistication of crypto security protocols—and the occasional pragmatism of those who test them.
